If someone asked you what it was that great insurance agents shared would you know the answer? The answer is that they know their product lines inside and out. They can tell you anything you would want to know about any one of the products they offer, right on the spot, without ever having to look it up. These are the insurance experts that sell more. But why?

That’s because the more you know about your product the more you sell. When a customer is shopping around for insurance they are usually looking for how well the insurance product meets their needs and the value of that product. When you understand what it is you are selling you answer questions with confidence. The customer is making a big decision to protect those they love and your confidence is passed on to them so that they can confidently choose your service or product.

The more you know about the products and services you offer, the more passionate you become about those products and services and that in itself is an excellent selling feature. You need to believe in what you are selling before you can get others to believe in it.

You will also talk much more relaxed and fluently so that you come across with a very natural inflection to your conversation and by not having to look up answers to questions you come across as an intelligent, personable expert in the insurance field.

Knowing your products also allows you to match your customer’s needs on the fly. You can adjust as necessary without having to look things up which tends to leave a potential customer feeling a little uneasy. When you know off the top of your head what it is they will need you look like a real expert and the customer feels confident.

It’s that confidence that is critical in any sales environment. And behind any agent’s confidence is product knowledge so memorize your product line and you’ll sell significant more.

Products change even in the insurance business. Things are added, other things are taken away, even laws affecting insurance change, so it is important that you continue to study over time. If you stay proactive relating to trends and products you will sell more policies and the policies you fit will be a good match with the customer. Refresher courses are one way of staying ahead, as are industry publications.

When you combine the use of real time, quality insurance leads like those offered by companies you start with a lead that you know is already looking for insurance and now you can show them just how much of an expert you are. Half the work is already done for you.

What separates a good agent from a bad agent? Knowledge and smart lead generation. When you go that extra mile and learn everything there is to no about your products you are rewarded because insurance experts sell more insurance. And when you recognize the potential of using leads generated by a lead generation company you are thinking smarter than the competition. Don’t you want to be the insurance expert prospects rely on?
